once i thought i knew how i felt
and that feelings would never change
but now i take a few steps back
and wonder how things got so strange
a new world's opening up for me
with choices to be made
and i watch in utter amazement
as my old life seems to fade
i stroll through the forest and look at the trees
and i swear i hear them say,
"everything will work out in the end
even though you've lost your way"
so i toss off the baggage of yesteryear
and strip down to the bone
i feel surrounded by lots of love
even though i'm all alone
'cuz my friends, they are so dear to me
and i wonder if they know
that every single one of them
has somehow helped me grow
i stroll through the forest and look at the trees
and i swear i hear them say
"the old world's closing in on you
you'd better live life for today"
so i try to let go of all the fear
the anger and the pain
of all regrets, of all mistakes,
of all the love in vain
i look up to the moon, the stars,
the beauty that prevails
and see, for once, my part
in all the sordid fairy tales
and i stroll through the forest and look at the trees
i swear i hear them say
"life is just a game, my friend,
and you gotta know how to play"
"life is just a game, my friend, and you gotta know how to play"
