I'm planning to use this page to connect to a number of my interests: including stamp collecting, animals (especially cats), travel, spirituality, and friends. I have another page on healing from sexual abuse called Healing Our Lives. I've done a lot of work on it, and overall it's coming along well. I'm hoping that this page will soon be coming along too, but it's been a bit slower going.
I currently have 5 cats (Tiffany, Dante, Camus, Sammy, and CC). You can see pictures of 2 of them here, as well as my kitty Billy, who I lost at the age of 16 1/2 years in 2007.
I have other animal links as well.
One of my hobbies that I don't seem to have enough time for is stamp collecting. I have been collecting for about 20 years. I currently have approximately 15,000-20,000 stamps from all over the world. I do have some available for trading, although not a large number of them. Perhaps as I get my collection organized better (am currenlty transferring it to a bigger book) I will make a list of my trade stamps and make a link to it here. (Yeah...that sounds like fun!) In the meantime, I have some other links.
Although I have not done much of it, I have enjoyed caving occasionally during the past 10 years. I have explored caves in Wisconsin and Tennessee, and the one I visit most often is Lost Creek Cave in middle Tennessee. This cave has an amazing 40 foot waterfall in the back of it, and I find it so peaceful to go and sit back there and listen to the water. Speaking of peace:
When I moved to the city that I now call home, I had no clue what spirituality was. None. That was only in 1992. I now have very strong spiritual beliefs and true faith in my higher power whom I choose to call God. I no longer worry about things to come (like how I will pay a bill) because I now know that God always provides me with the opportunities to get what I need. Those opportunities often entail work on my part (such as working a second job) but they are there for me never-the-less. I have joined a church for the first time in my life. I have also found other ways to help me feel the power of my spirituality. One of those ways is through music. Although I don't have a singing voice, I find many church hymns to be very relaxing for me. I am also very interested in angels, as they are not only beautiful, but they represent those who God works through to help others. Some tell me I am one of them (although I'm not so sure I would go so far as to say that myself), as I choose to dedicate my life to passing on my faith by doing God's work in helping others. I have another webpage called Healing Our Lives which I have dedicated to healing from the trauma of sexual abuse.
I like to look at artwork sometimes. One of my favorite artists is Adolphe-William Bougureau (please be aware that this link leads to thumbnails of 45 of his pieces of art and takes a long time to load...also, one of them is really not his but is often attributed to him because it is very similar to his).
I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel, especially during my teenage years. My first trip was for 8 days in 1983. This trip was through my high school Spanish Club, and our primary destination was Costa del Sol, Spain. During that trip we also went to the Alahmbra and to the Kasbah in Morocco, Africa. The next summer I spent 2 months living with a family in Leiria, Portugal. They took me to see many places in their beautiful country, including Fatima, Batalha, Coimbra, Obidos, Alcobaca, Nazare, and Lisboa. I loved that country, and particularly the town of Leiria, so much that I did not want to leave at the end of the summer. In 1986 I traveled to London, England, to study at Ealing College for a year. I lived with a family in the suburb of Hanwell. One of my classes included day trips to many places in England, including Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton, Salisbury, and Bath. I also took weekend trips to Edinbourough, Scotland (for Halloween weekend) and to the southwest coast of Wales. During my Christmas break, I traveled to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus for two weeks to visit my foreign exchange sister from high school, and to meet her family. Then when classes ended in the spring I returned to Portugal for 2 weeks to see the people and places I had come to know and to love several years before. Although I have since lost contact with the people I knew there, I have recently been trying to improve my Portuguese language skills, and I have made many new friends in Brazil (as well as a couple in Portugal) with whom I can write and speak in Portuguese.
Feel free to check out my other miscellaneous links plus I have links where you can get free stuff, including samples of products, e-cards and virtual flowers, among other things. Check it out!
Please come back soon and visit me.
