September 1st - November 15th, and do not approach any United Way sponsors.

· we need more recognition for members that perform over and above of their duty responsibilities
- perhaps monetary recognition ?
- each division should recognize their members more
Laura F: there are no problems for recognition of members on media (TV, etc.)

General Meeting With Area Commissioner
Nancy N

Minutes by : Johnson L
Date: Sunday, June 14, 1998
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Attended by:
Area members: Bob B, Andrew M, Martha B, Norman F
Varsity member: Johnson L

Area’s New Managers
Area Communications: Mr. Andrew M
Area Duty Coordinator: Mr. Norman F
Area Recruiting: Ms. Barb L

Area Recruitment Program
- a committee headed by Barb L
- new recruits' orientation night is supposed to be 1st Thursday of every second month
- there will be no orientation nights over the summer
- next one should be in September 1998
- to recruit more, one suggestion was to put a box at each location for interested public course members to drop their info into

Q: why is the recruitment program taking so long to get new members?
A: mostly due to insufficient space at all 3 St. John locations. Also training course was hard to get instructors to teach

Distribution of Information
- Nancy N has found it hard to reach all officers' via the mailing list system now
- not 100% of info is being transmitted right now
- however, the Provincial mailings are more reliable, since they go out each week
- Amanada S (Editor of "Crusader") has found that problem too; not all divisions get her newsletter
- she acknowledges the "Crusader" is online at Varsity's homepage , but no 100% of the members have internet access

Duty Issues
- starting Monday, June 15th, 1998, ALL duties will be handed to our new Area Duty Coordinator: Norman F, only he will call and distribute to divisions
- so no more branch calling members directly
- problem with the asking for donations' letter
- that has been "toned down" from before, but we still have situations where members were put into awkward circumstances when asked questions about donations
- solution: Norman F will distribute a script for all members on what to say and how to handle situations like that

Duty Manual
- is to redefine the way duties are to be covered and received
- the Duty Manual will be finallized soon and made available to all divisional officers and duty coordinators
- the manual will define the chain of steps to take at a duty

Q: If a community wants duty coverage, who do they contact?
A: Give them St. John's number (416 967-4244, and ask for Anne-Marie R, she will give them a form to fill out and fax back

Area Positions Available
1. Area Disaster Planning Committe member
2. Area Duty Supervisor Coordinator
- apply in writing to the Area Commissioner

Communications - Radios
- Monty D will be looking into radios
- perhaps a centralized booking system may make more sense
- more will be discussed at the Area Committee meeting on Monday, June 15th

Next "Town Hall" Meeting
