SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina - Defending champion Karrie Webb shot a final round of one-under-par 69 to win the U.S. Women's Open by eight shots.

Webb, who won last year's Open by five strokes, was the only player to better par for the tournament, finishing at seven-under-par 273.

Pak Se-Ri of South Korea (news - web sites) finished alone in second place at one-over 281 after a final-round 72.

Notes: Webb joined an elite group of successful defenders after successfully defending her U.S. Women's Open Championship title.

Only six other women have ever won back-to-back Opens: Annika Sorenstam, 1995-1996; Betsy King, 1989-1990; Hollis Stacy 1977-1978; Susie Berning, 1972-73; Donna Caponi, 1969-1970; Mickey Wright, 1958-1959.
