Current Out of the Blue update by Laura Young, director 97-98 We are really looking forward to a great year ahead of us. So far, our plans for this upcoming year include: Fall Tour - up the east coast, with tentative stops in NYC, Boston, DC, UVa, and anywhere in between. Spring Break - hopefully we will sing on a cruise ship somewhere warm!! J Were also hoping to include community service projects, such as working with high school a cappella groups and singing in the pediatric ward of Duke Hospital. OOTB '97-'98 The scheduled concerts for this upcoming year are as follows: Freshmen concert on Aug 31st, Homecoming, Parent's Weekend, Christmas Concert with the Pitchforks, Spring concert. (I apologize, but I am not certain of the dates. We will let you know as soon as we find out!) The songs that we are tentatively planning to do this year are as follows: I Don't Want to Wait - Paula Cole; Cold Hearted Snake - Paula Abdul; Building a Mystery - Sarah McLaughlin; Shame On You - Indigo Girls; So Much Mine - The Story; Secret - Madonna; Number One Crush - Garbage; Climbing - Paula Cole We could really use
some arrangements of upbeat, popular songs. Even
well-known songs from the 80's would be great! I
personally have always wanted to try a country song,
especially one by Shania Twain. But of course all
arrangements are welcome and appreciated! In addition to
arrangements, ideas on songs to sing, places to go,
people to contact, etc., are always welcome. CD Update Out of the Blue is
very excited to announce that we are in the process of
producing our 3rd compact disc, tentatively
scheduled to be released in September or October of 1997.
In August, Erica Berg (Director 96), Laura Young
(Director 98), Heather Lee (President 96) and
Cynthia Simon (President 98) mixed the album under
the direction of our new recording engineer, Steve
Gronback, whose TGS Studios is located in Chapel Hill.
Not yet titled, the new disc is a compilation of songs
performed by OOTB 95-96 and OOTB
96-97, and features tracks including Train
in Vain by Annie Lenox, 32 Flavors by ani defranco,
Galileo by the Indigo Girls, Rhythm of the Night by
El DeBarge, Kyrie Elaison by Mister Mister,
and numerous other hit songs. |
