Get in shape with target training

As January is almost here, and we know everyone over-indulge in turkey and their extra helpings of dessert, our fitness guru Salz is going to give us a run down of what to do to get back in shape!

Heart Rate Monitors
There's nothing like training at the right pace, and unless you have a personal trainer, invest in a quality heart rate monitor. Bios Fitness, Polar, and Timex are some of the great name brands out there in heart rate monitors. Our top picks:

Bios Fitness
Bios Fitness offers good value for great price. Their advance heart rate units come with target zone training with audio and visual alarms, and shows you the duration of time in your target zone. They sell a range of units from very basic to advance.
Available at Canadian stores such as London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Overwaitea.

Polar
The world's first brand, Polar offers units at a much higher cost for their prestigious name, but comes packed with the same features. They sell a range of units from very basic to advance.
Available online and at national stores such as Sears.

Timex
Already well known for its watches, so it was a natural development for them to go into heart rate monitors. They are the official Ironman watch makers.

Garmin
Garmin makes a GPS heart rate monitor, as an extension of their extensive GPS line up.

What you should be looking for
Features such as target zone alarms, duration in target zone, water resistance, backlight (if you intend to run in dark conditions), and a wireless chest strap for continuous monitoring.

Have fun and good luck with your training.
