WHAT IS A DADDY

More and more families today consist of a "father figure" who is not the child's father. This can be an upsetting situation for the child. This "story" is an attempt to help parents explain to a child that while a man may not be the child's father; he is Daddy.

P> Being a father is a biological fact. It takes only a few minutes of effort. But, being a Daddy is a lifetime commitment. It takes a lot of time, effort, emotion, patience, and love. A man becomes a father by an act of nature. He becomes a Dad through Love.

I attempted to put this idea down in a way that a small child can understand. IF you use this story to help explain why Daddy may not be the father; feel free to add some personal stuff in here.

Please excuse the art work. I am not an artist! If anyone has better illustrations and is willing to share them, I would appreciate it. I hope this can help you explain to your child what a Daddy is.

Let'S Talk!!

Child, we need to talk. I may not be your father. I wish I was, but I wasn't here at that time in your life. But, I am your Daddy. I am because you are so special that I wanted to be your Daddy. I will always be your Daddy, even if I can't be here every day.

A Daddy will always be ready to give you hugs and kisses. He is there to wipe your tears, put a band-aid on your ouches, hold you when you feel sick, and laugh with you. He will tell you when you did a good job and he is the firm voice that tells you "NO".

A Daddy will take the time to help you learn new things: like how to ride a bike, skate, read a book, fly a kite, or hunt for worms. Daddy is not afraid of bugs!

A Daddy will play games, watch Tv, read stories, or talk with you. He will also take you places; like the store, the zoo, or Grandma's house.

A Daddy is someone to look up to. Not just because he is bigger than you are, but because you know that he loves you, spends time with you, and because he is special. A Daddy does all these things for you, not because he has to, but because he wants to.
