LEGEND OF THE DREAM GATE

The Legend of the Dream Gate

The dream gate is an American Indian legend of unknown origin. Some tribes refer to it as the night vision quest, while others view it as the eye to the inner spirit. However it is referred, the idea is the same, a means to look inward, to find direction, to find courage, or to find peace.

A dream gate is a focal point. It can be a leaf, the moon, a star, a pebble, a ripple, or even a cloud. A maiden may study a field of dancing wild flowers or a busy bee.

The idea is to focus on an object, study it until all thoughts leave the mind. Once the mind is clear, then it is possible for the spirit to take over. As the spirit continues to gain control, the focus turns inward; leaving the external world behind. At this point, the mind can hear the sprit talk.

Listening to the spirit can take the form of a dream or a vision. Thin inner voice can guide you on a correct path to courage, happiness, a good hunt, or if not careful the foolish tricks of the evil spirits while in the trance like state.

Today, individuals use the same dream gates much as the Indians did; to find inner peace, a way to relax, a quiet place for shelter during rough times, or just a way to talk privately with the spirit. Focusing on clouds, stars, or the moon seems to be the most popular dream gates. Still, many quietly sit and watch the rolling sea. As the tide rolls out, it takes along the tensions and troubles.

Dream gates are a means to unlocking the door to the creative inner self. Dream gates are a means to unlocking to door between the person and the Great Spirit.
