The Colours of Australia.

Blue of the endless skies, the Pacific
and Indian Oceans, the Great
Dividing Range in the distance,
the Arafura Sea and 'True Blue'.
Red of the deserts, the Olga's
and Uluru, the breast of the
crimson rosella, the  dingo,
and old man kangaroo.
Green of eucalyptus, mallee
scrub, budgerigars around an
artesian bore in springtime and
Pandanus Palms in Jabiru.
Gold of the sands, Cootamundra
wattle, wheat in summertime and
the hearts of wonderful people,
through and through.
These are the colours of Australia.

We don't actually have Kangaroos hopping
down every main street, we don't all wear hats
with corks hanging off them, we don't all have
blue eyes and blonde hair, (although I do!)
We don't all 'live' at the beach, we don't all live on
cattle stations in the outback, we don't all live in
the desert, either. We don't have Koala's in every
gum tree. Hmmmmm....any more stereotypes?
Horrors...we don't all say "g'day mate" all the
time! (I don't think I ever say it at all)
If you know of more things we 're supposed to do,
they're probably not true!
We ARE...
from all races, highly multicultural, we have
some of the world's greatest musicians, artists,
authors, playwrights, actors. We eat a great variety
of foods from many cultures, we have some of the worlds
top vineyards and wineries and our soils are rich in
precious minerals and gemstones. We have a
democratic system of government that most
of us complain about all the time, rarely
realising how blessed we are to have  the
freedom to complain. (There ARE still reasons
to complain though!) Everyone is eligible for
money from this government if we cannot support
ourselves. We are allowed freedom of speech and
movement, choice of religion and sexual
preference. Everyone is eligible for free health
care, in one of the world's most technologically
advanced health systems. The weather ranges
from sub-equatorial Darwin to the icy Snowy
Mountains where the temperatures may not raise
above zero for weeks on end, and everything in between.
We have some of the most stunning scenery and
the most unique and the most endearing
animals in the world.
They call us the Lucky Country.
They may well be right.
