La Donna Della Fiamma - 1870
Coloured chalks
A chalk drawing intended to be redone in oils but at the time Rossetti's eyesight was beginning to fail (the same happened to Degas, he turned to chalks when his eyes were troublsome) In the figure's (Jane Morris) hand she releses a firey winged figure of love. The theme of the drawing complimented Rossetti's poetry at the time, being that of fierce love:
"Whatever her sweet eyes are turned upon,
Spirits of love do issue thence in flame."
From Vita Nuova
