| Founded as a liberal arts
college in 1904 by the Order of Saint Ursula, the College of New Rochelle was the first Catholic college for
women in New York state. When I entered in 1961, the faculty were nuns who wore habits, were semi cloistered, and were called Sister. By the time I graduated in 1965, they wore civies, had secular names and had moved to Harlem. A lot happend during those four year. They were the years of Vatican II. |
Since graduation the College
added the Graduate School in 1969, the School of New
Resources (for adult learners) in 1972, and the School of
Nursing in 1976. Today, the School of Arts and Sciences continues the tradition of enrolling only women, while the other three schools admit both women and men. And the President now is a male. I completed a Masters degree in 1968 and in 1983 took my Ph.D. Where ever I go the College of New Rochelle is with me. |
