Hotel Merida

In February 1977, on our first vacation to Mexico, we stayed at the Hotel Merida. The city was noisy, colorful and fun. The hotel was lovely and the staff were gracious.

We flew to Merida on Aviateca, Guatamala's national airline.The interface between U.S. and Mexican technology was not well developed at the time. Ten minutes before reaching Merida, the Aviateca pilot did a head count and found he had only one seat available. We ended up having to fly to Mexico City and then on to the U.S. on Eastern Airlines.
