Elizabeth Anne VanderPutten - I Received the Hammer Award

The Hammer Award

Among the most visible programs of the Clinton Administration was the so-called "Reinventing Government," which was run from 1993 to 2001 by Vice President Al Gore. It aimed at streamline the way the government does business. Agencies and individuals who made special contributions to the objectives of the National Performance Review were given the Hammer award.

The Award is "a hammer, which symbolizes building a superior government that works better while costing less, and is given in recognition of persons who have made a notable contribution in support of NPR ideas."

I received the Hammer Award in 1997. In January 2000, I and other Hammer Awardees were invited to meet with the Vice President.
