H.D. (Hilda Doolittle)
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hilda Doolittle was born in Pennsylvania in 1886. In 1911, she went abroad for a visit to London and never returned to live in the United States. Her first volume appeared in 1916, followed by seven other volumes as well as several novels, critical works, and a memoir. Although critics' opinions vary, much of her work is considered imagist or modernist poetry. However they are classifed by scholars, H.D.'s poems, along with works by Millay, Bogan, Moore, and other female poets writing during the turn of the century, undisputably contributed to the composition of what amounts to the first substantial body of lyric poetry written by women.
