Painted Quilts

1890's Doll Quilt

I actually made two of these quilts. I had the help of a wonderful lady named Ann Smith to assist in the sewing portion. The theme of this quilt is Dolls from the 1890's era. I alternated a painted square with a mint colored fabric square. I also made sure I bought enough of the mint fabric to make matching curtians. This quilt was made when I lived in Germany in 1989.

The room you are looking at is my daughter Rachael's room. My husband painted it as she requested, like the outdoors. He did the hills and valleys with normal wall paint, and used a sponge with white wall paint for the clouds. The flowers (which are difficult to see, where done both freehand and with stencils. Below you will see pictures of my husband actually painting the flowers and a wider shot of the bunkbeds with the quilts and matching curtains. That's Rachael sticking her head out between the beds.

As I mentioned on the main craft page, I'm currently designing a new painted quilt. The girls have had these quilts on their bed for almost 9 years now, and they've been begging me for a change. I came up with the Looney Tunes theme for Rachael. She's at just the right age for something like that. I know within a few years, she'll out grow this idea when she becomes a teen, but I figure I will just put it away for her children. Since Looney Tunes was around when I was young and still is today, I figure there's a good chance they will still be around when Rachael has children of her own.

I plan to post pictures of the new quilts progress, but I have to start it first. Keep checking back on the progress.
