EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF A CHILD
Mommy and daddy I need you to care.
And, your love for me to abundantly share.
To protect me from harm and all that is wrong.
To help me grow independent, mature and strong.
I need you to realize from my moment of birth
Your actions mold feelings of my very self-worth.
What I hear in your words and see in your faces.
Will leave life-long impressions, personality traces.
I need you to know that whatever I'm to be,
Is the reflection of what I think you see in me.
If the foundation you give is loving and secure,
Then all that life throws me, I'll be able to endure.
I need you to explain that life's not always fair.
That sorrows and injustices are common, not rare.
And if these things happen not to always blame myself.
For you taught me to love me, a gift greater than wealth.
I need you to assure me I'm worthy and deserving of love.
Whether it's from my fellowman, or the kind from above.
If you provide me with values of self-love, worth and esteem.
Life's good will become mine--not some unreachable dream.
