Dear Brain:
I know you've been off traveling a lot these last two weeks, and I hope you had a good time--I didn't miss you a bit, except when I lost the car. I imagine you're a little upset right now--with that uninvited guest there. Really, if I'd known about it I would have at least tipped you off. Truly, truly didn't know that little monster in my belly, (he's kinda like a tapeworm, looking for a fix to keep him alive) would move to your place after the initial withdrawal, and set up operations there.
I guess I better level with you. You have a job in front of you--I'll do what I can, but it's really up to you to stay one step ahead of him at all times--and it's all done with brains--are you up to that??? And I've GOT to get ready and my ducks in a row by 3 weeks.
The first 3 weeks I could shine it on with white-knuckle stuff, but now I got to really work on my attitude. If I don't, it's bye-bye quit, hello slavery again.
Been there, done that, didn't like it.
I know the monster has taken up a lot of your space, and you can hardly get any work done, but every time you do the right thing, he gets smaller and he gets weaker, and he breaks wind less-- that alone should be incentive for you!
He's going to come up with my old lies---and you are to counter them with the truth--that's it in a nutshell. Examples to watch for:
Just one puff ----LIE (No such thing--one puff is a con, sucker bait--for being in slavery the rest of my life--just junkie stuff--one puff makes it easier to take a second)
Envying a smoker --LIE What's to envy? They're miserable in their habit envying me-- nothing like shooting one's self in the foot.
A cig would help me calm down, relax --LIE (Are you outta your mind? All it did was quiet a craving from withdrawing.--and it NEVER did calm me--raised the BP, heart rate, etc....)
I've been feeling down--a cig made life bearable'---LIE -- (having loaded lungs, coughs, --EVERY cigarette smoked was to relieve withdrawal pangs--just an addiction, and a cigarette was merely the nicotine delivery system.---Nothing like moping & feeling sorry for oneself--What's to mope about, anyway, THE TRUTH is I've never felt better.)
You get the idea--Brain, you just gotta do this for me--no sitting on the tush--gotta counter every sly trick, sly suggestion EVERY TIME the monster makes--then he'll shrivel up and die and you can resume playing with your other toys.
Love,
Roadkill

WARNING: DON'T SMOKE!!!
When I was young (14) and didn't know;
I started on a journey, not knowing where I'd go.
The journey started out with a discreet few.
My Dad and Mom; OH! NO. Only a few friends knew.
Out behind the barn -- Out of sight.
Does anyone have a light?
The more I embraced this little stick;
I became its slave; it made me sick.
My life full of energy -- for work and play;
Came to a subtle stop one day;
Ever-increasing to a screeching halt.
Now 33 years later, I wonder if it is all my fault.
The next room is a 100 miles away,
The next step is a struggle; Help me God I pray.
As I struggle from one room to the next;
I can't remember the warning text.
WARNING:
Smoking may cause you to roll a green tank around;
A tube stuck up your nose as you go to town.
WARNING:
Smoking may cause you to have several hospital stays
Many being extended for several days.
WARNING:
Smoking may cause you to miss the joys of life --
Your kids, grand-kids; yes, even your wife.
Only if I had known 33 years ago
I could have avoided this devastating blow.
This disease called emphysema
It can't be helped by FEMA.
For emphysema there is no cure;
Just a little research; to find it for sure.
Tobacco companies should be made to pay
Please God. Help us I pray.
WARNING: DON'T SMOKE!!!
