MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION

You've failed may times, although you may not remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim, didn't you? Did you hit the ball the first time you swung the bat? Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home runs, also strike out a lot. R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on. English novelist John Creasy got 753 rejection slips before he published 564 books. Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, but he also hit 714 home runs. Don't worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.
Champions are people with great holding power, not starting power, but staying power!"
Success is a matter of hanging on after others have let go.

RESIST
A very important tool is to look at cigarette seduction square in the eye--and don't blink.
Seduction starts something like this: Unproductive thoughts allowed to linger--and play games-- the thought of a "craving being just too hard"....self-pity--confabulated rationalization and justification--the absolute certainty that just one cigarette would help--it would take the edge off--it wouldn't hurt (do I need to go on??)
The cigarette is lit. All those lying promises that sounded so reasonable and so great 5 minutes ago--was going on in one's head that this would really do the trick, never got delivered. The awful realization, that that precious wall you had spent many painful hours of enduring withdrawal, days carefully constructing and strengthening the wall to prevent just such a seduction from getting a foothold in your brain, just got torn down, and there's nothing to show for it.
Regret, regret, regret--the wishing one could turn the hands of the clock back to five minutes earlier.....then the awful realization hits....IT WASN'T WORTH IT!!
The cover was better than the book--a cheap 5-minute thrill.......IT WASN'T WORTH IT--IT WAS A CON!!
It is so much easier to do whatever is necessary to resist the urge to go thru the temporary emotional surge, the unexpected, than start over.....much, much easier. If it means sitting on your hands, or sitting in a tub of water until one is a prune....if it means sitting up in a tree, howling at the moon...if it means draining the tub and still sitting there, if it means having a long talk with your dog, rather than your SO, if it means grabbing the nearest chocolate.....do it.
And YET--you were successfully managing your mind, OR YOU WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR!! So you can manage that unruly mind....
Keep your wall in good repair--remember, it's your quit and you have the most to gain or lose....
RESIST SEDUCTION AND KNOW IT WHEN IT'S WORKING ON YOU--AND BEAT THE HOLY @#$% OUT OF IT, while you're at it.

I know you must be sick of all these post but some things are just so hard to pass up.*S* I found this today, so dig out the stationary if your in doubt about becoming smober.
If you're having doubts about quitting, sit down and write a letter to each important person in your life (children, spouse, etc.), explaining to them why cigarettes are more important than they are. For instance, tell them in detail why it is more important for you to smoke than to be at their graduation, or to celebrate your wedding anniversary... You get the idea.
As you write of course, it will become more and more obvious how ridiculous (or callous even), putting smoking ahead of your loved ones is. The only way out of this dilemma is to quit. For good. NO BUTTS ABOUT IT.
So if you're having doubts, I dare you to sit down and write those letters to your loved ones.
