MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION

I went looking for a reason tonight...
I went to the grocery store first, and although there was a very attractive lady in the produce section who smiled so warmly at me... I didn't find it there... only a multitude of foodstuff, most of it processed beyond recognition…
Then I went to the gas station, and smelled the fumes of the petrol, but alas there was no reason there either... only stuff we dug up from deep within the earth...
Then I came home and checked my mail, and I found many things I did not request and did not need, which were all made from trees and promptly thrown away... but again no reason was found there...
I entered my space, and put my things in their places, and turned on my radio, and checked my phone messages, and checked my e-mail, and cooked some food, and took a shower... again, no reason anywhere...
But then when I got out of the shower, I looked in the mirror, and there it was... my reason for quitting, for going through all the pain, the withdrawal, the fear, the depression, the doubt, the cravings, the missed sleep, the loss of friends (both figuratively and real), the loss of safety and security, and the confusion of unbridled emotion coming back into my life...
me.

As his car passed, no child darted out, but a brick sailed out and - WHUMP! - - it smashed into the Jag's shiny black side door.
SCREECH!!! Brakes slammed! Gears ground in reverse and tires madly spun the Jaguar back to the spot from where the brick had been thrown. Josh jumped out of the car, grabbed the kid and pushed him up against a parked car.
He shouted at the kid, "What did you do that for?? Just what the heck do you think you are doing?!!"
Building up a head of steam, he went on. "That's my new Jag, and that brick you just threw is gonna cost your parents a lot of money. Why did you throw it?"
"Please, mister, please... I'm sorry! I didn't know what else to do!" pleaded the youngster. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop!"
Tears were dripping down the boy's chin as he pointed around the parked car. "It's my brother, mister," he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair; and, I can't lift him up!"
Sobbing, the boy asked the executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."
Moved beyond words, the young executive tried desperately to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. Straining, he lifted the young man back into the wheelchair. He took out his handkerchief and wiped the scrapes and cuts, checking to see that everything was going to be ok.
.
He then watched the younger brother push him down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long walk back to the sleek, black, shining, 12-cylinder Jaguar XKE-a long and slow walk.
Now, Josh never did fix the side door of his Jaguar. He kept the dent to remind him not to go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at him to get his attention...

DON'T EVER!
Don't ever be reluctant
to show your feelings
when you're happy, give in to it.
When you're not, live with it.
Don't ever be afraid to try to
make things better
you might be surprised at the results.
Don't ever take the weight of the world
on your shoulders.
Don't ever feel threatened by the future
take life one day at a time.
Don't ever feel guilty about the past
what's done is done. Learn from any
mistakes you might have made.
Don't ever feel that you are alone
there is always somebody there for
you to reach out to.
Don't ever forget that you can achieve
so many of the things you can imagine
.
It's not as hard as it seems.
Don't ever stop loving
don't ever stop believing,
don't ever stop dreaming your dreams.

QUIT KIT.....
Confidence is nice, BUT doing the foot-work is better. Confidence is the RESULT of accomplishment, and my money goes on the one who's got blisters.....
1. A drinking container/w straw filled w/ water to keep by your computer, desk, coffee table.
2. Mission Control--read & post.
3. Anti-depressant use is common aid--check w/doctor, consider the new nicotine replacement aids.
4. Work daily (hourly) on attitude. Don't mope. Defrock lies in head, i.e., cigs being desirable, helpful, etc....(they never were). Get ALL of the "romance" of smoking out of your brain.
5. You know your triggers--don't mess with them early on. (They never worked before, why step on the same banana peel?)
6. Don't set yourself up to fail. Don't keep cigarettes--for any reason. (Would you recommend a former heroin addict keep a full syringe handy?--a loaded pistol in reach of children?)
7. From the moment of quitting, treat *all* cigarettes as rat droppings--never touch them, or hand them to someone, or empty an ashtray. That's just the way it is.
8. Indulge yourself--quitting is hard work--have blankie, pillow at the ready. Take advantage of opportunities to be alone. No time to make speaking engagements, etc...accept Nobel Prize, etc....
9. Discover cinnamon sticks, straws. Suck air until urge passes.
10. Post warning sign on fridge for others "Sarcasm highly dangerous--Explosive--use at your own risk".
11. Be Teflon-coated. No time to rise to the bait. Detach. Settle scores later.
12. Banish any thought of "Just a puff"--no such thing & it means a return to a lifetime of slavery.
13. Welcome the cravings--they are living proof of your decision to turn your life around--let the monster try to do its worse. Every craving pqssed, means that much closer to a lifetime of freedom. It's worth it.
14. Watch "Cold Turkey" starring Dick Van Dyke, and die laughing.
15. Get quit buddies & support them & stay focused.
16. Keep your eyes on the prize
17. Keep your eyes on the prize.
18. Keep your eyes on the prize
19. Keep your eyes on the prize.
20. Keep your eyes on the prize.
