greetings from beijing!
after being offline fro 96 hrs, i finally got to logon--such a feeling of relief! not too much was happening in my wcw acct, but when i logged onto my netcom acct i had over 3000 messages waiting for me--mostly error msgs about mailboxes being full. i worked on sorting thorugh my mail for nearly five hours before some fella techs dragged me to a cab. i then logged on from the hotel & was able to process 50 more until the phone line flacked, froze the communications applications, thereby freezing the computer. after restarting the computer, i tried to access zterm again--it had been fried (hopefully i will be able to reinstall it tonight).
a quick analysis of 2700 of the 3000 msgs reveals that approx 175 msgs had been posted in 96 hours--an outstanding job data collection & distribution, but way too much traffic for the average user's mailbox. i also have approx 250 subscription requests yet to process, & info which i would like to upload to the list itself.
therefore i propose the following: i have contacted NETCOM & asked that
BEIJING95-L return to full moderation--the info will not full as smoothly
as it has during external moderation, but i will be able to control the
traffic, hopefully avoiding info overflow. because so much info is
coming out of beijing, i will have to pick & choose what info will be
posted. if you want a direct line to what is happening in beijing, please
join apc (association for progressive communications)
