I have been collecting stamps featuring women & gynocentric culture for the past couple of years. My collection is nothing fancy, but I am particularly proud of the my stamps from the UN Women's Conference.

I always tuck a couple of Breast Cancer Awareness stamps in a card as a thank you gift to those who sponsor me for various breast cancer fund raising activities.
I have also tucked this stamp into photo of audre lorde, which shares a triptach frame with Eleanor Roosevelt and Susan B Anthony & Elizabeth Cady Stanton. I hope to mount & display my other stamps of women as well.
Imagine my pleasure that on May 9, 1998 the US post office unveiled a new semi-postal stamp, "Cure Breast Cancer", to benefit breast cancer research. As a 40-cent semipostal stamp, it will be deemed valid for postage at the prevailing First-Class rate, currently 32 cents. Seventy percent of net proceeds will be given to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and 30 percent of net proceeds will be given to the Department of Defense (DoD). (BTW 5/9/98 USPS announce a Prostrate Cancer Awareness stamp to be issued next year) .
When the post office started advertising their campaign to create stamps which Celebrate the Century--naturally I wondered if any women were included (so far: The Gibson Girl, 19th Amendment, Emily Post, Margaret Mead, & Flappers Dance the Charleston). And naturally it led to the question: who are the women who have been honored by a stamp?
Below are some links to women & gynocentric events which have been commemorated by stamps.
