This peice is more of a whimisical piece. I didn't have an established plan when I started, and as I was working on the piece, if I had a flash of inspiration I followed it. I experiemented with several new stitches. And had alot of fun with the piece. I used Japanese Delica beads. The bag itself is done with the brick stitch, the strap is a combination of crochetted beadwork, which I used because it is very flexable and comfortable to wear, not being stiff or scratchy. At the base of the strap, I experimented with loops to join the bag and strap on one side and tried other methods of attachment on the other side. I used a square stich on the left side, when I finished I didn't like the way the string showed with the square stitch so I desided to add some vines. I searched high and low for spring green transparent beads, the tiny ones, finally at the gem & bead show I found some at last. On the right hand side of the strap, I used an African helix stitch, I experiemented quite abit with this area, with beads of different sizes, the color combinations and number of beads used. I'll take some close ups next time I pull out the camera. Created in Sept of 1998, it still graces my cases attracting attention waiting for the right person to come along and buy it.
