April 28, 1998 Slugs -

The slugs are making their presence noticed. They've been munching on my goldenseal. To night I am going slug hunting. When they start munching on my goldenseal, thats when I feel I must take action.

I started last night with a flash light and a paper cup, a salt shaker and a couple of sticks, because I really didn't want to touch the slugs. It didn't take me long to figure out trying to pick them up with sticks would be too time comsuming. So I ended up using my fingers Yuck!. My fingers were covered with slug slime by the time I was done. I had filled my paper cup two-thirds full. I just kept circling through the garden and there were always more crawling out of hiding. I finally called it quits after midnight, after being out there for a couple of hours, gave me a lower back ache. I put a dent in the population though. (sigh of satifaction)

June 24
The weather has been beautiful, It has really warmed up. Still I do battle with the slugs, but they seem to be mellowing out a bit. I guess my efforts have done some damage, and the heat has helped me too.
I got another handful of strawberries, a quarter of them had slug holes in them. grr.... I got a bunch of them in my beer traps though. HA!
