To a Daughter Overseas

 The same sun beats
Upon your shore and mine,
From the same skies
The same warm sun does shine.

The same moon breaks
The darkness of the night
To spread on both
The same soft silv'ry light.

The same stars glow
And twinkle in your skies,
The same flow'rs spring forth
To meet your raptured eyes.

So warmth creeps back
Into my aching heart
The miles between
Cannot keep us apart.

Nor life, nor death
Can break the ties that bind
For 'tis in Christ
Our lives are intertwined.
