Frances Farmer, Seattle girl whose movie stardom was ended by mental illness, will leave Western Washington State Hospital at Steilacoom today to seek obscurity as a typist.
Mrs. Lillian V. Farmer, 2636 47th Ave. S.W., told the Post-Intelligencer last night her daughter, whom she had committed to the hospital, "seems herself again."
"But the doctor has advised her not to return to Seattle or to think of acting again, at least for the present," Mrs. Farmer said. "They even suggested she change her name to avoid publicity."
Location of the former University of Washington student’s new job was a mystery. Mrs. Farmer would disclose only that it would be in a business office somewhere in the state.
Miss Farmer’s recent hospitalization was her second at Steilacoom. A year earlier she was treated there for three months, but was recommitted last May at her mother’s request.
Earlier in Hollywood she had figured in numerous escapades which interrupted her movie career at a time when she was a well known star.
