September 19th - Toronto

The remnants of the hurricane blew through - leaving the air fresh and clean. There were a few small branches about the streets, but no other damage that I could see. Still, the sound of the wind from our 7th floor apartment was awe inspiring! I was glad Jessie was at Patrick the dog-sitters' place lest she be blown away like Dorothy and her little dog in the "Wizard"!

Listening to the wind always reminds me of the Pentecost story. Sometimes it's gentle and refreshing; other times the wind is fierce and destructive. For sure, it's never indifferent. How is it that we live with this "Wind of the Spirit", and don't change, become inflamed, "clear the place out", and create new life. Well, of course, we often do! So let us give thanks and live in awareness!

After supper, Joanne and I walked down Bloor St. to a coffee cafe for our after-dinner drink. The neighbourhood has many people from eastern Europe, and as I sat at the outdoor table with Jessie, the lady at the next table kept talking to Jessie in, possibly, Polish. Her daughter interpreted, either for me or for the dog - I'm not sure!

I loved walking down the street full of people visiting with each other, having drinks or meals at outdoor cafes. It was somewhat like the Italian restaurant we went to last night; full of noise and chatter and companionship.
