22 September - Enroute from Toronto to Lancaster

My plan ... was to cross the border at Buffalo NY and phone Rosalie to see how she is and if she would like to have lunch together. I tried to follow the signs but couldn't seem to get off the freeway! I was sure that I would spend the rest of my life riding in circles and I'd never be found! Swallowed up by I-90 or something!

So I kept taking "the next exit" that came up until finally there were some signs of civilization and I found a gas station. About four wonderful people took me under their wing, and one of them was from Lancaster. She gave me excellent directions and put me on the right path again. However, by this time, Buffalo was far in the past.

It was nice to get on slower roads with less traffic. We drove "on top of hills" overlooking forests...still very green and not yet decked out in Fall colours. We passed through interesting small towns with lots of small shops....probably catering to the tourists and ski enthusiasts that come to the area. This beauty is not listed in my directions from Mapquest.com and is such a pleasant surprise.

So tonight I sit in a campsite just outside of Allegheny National Forest. There are free hot showers and rabbits running about to take Jessie's mind off the squirrels she left in Toronto. The rain is coming down solidly but we are secure and dry in our camper. Tomorrow I should be in Lancaster.
