October 12th - Bow Island, Alberta
Spent the night in Bow Island, which
is one of the places Mary Lockie and I visited many
decades ago. It is near Burdette where she was born and
where many of her family lives. It's very windy....The
weather report says winds in excess of 60 kms. I've
turned onto Alberta's route 3. This area started with gas and oil, which has now run out. Now the area grows pinto beans. The Manitoba - Saskatchewan - Alberta sky is immense. It stirs me more deeply than the ocean, I think because it surrounds me, embraces me, and becomes a part of me in a way the ocean doesn't. The pictures I've seen are insipid compared to the experience of the vast and continually changing sky. Saskatchewan calls it "living skies" - and indeed it is. |
