The Morning After
Maureen McGovern
(Words & music: Al, Kasha, Joel Hirschhorn)
First chart appearance: July 14,1973; Highest position: #1

There's got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Lets keep on looking for the light

Oh can't you see the morning after
It's waiting right outside the storm
Why dont we cross the bridge together
And find a place that safe and warm

It's not too late we should be giving
Only with love can we climb
It's not to late not while we're living
Let's put our hands out in time

There's got to be a morning after
We're moving closer to the shore
I know we'll be there by tomorrow
And we'll escape the darkness
We won't be searching anymore

CODA:
There's got to be a morning after
There's got to be a morning after

On New Year's Eve, a luxurious cruise liner, the S.S. Poseidon, is on its final voyage before being dismantled. An undersea earthquake nearby sends a flood of tidal waves that capsized the Poseidon, turning it completely upside down in the water. When the dust settles, a small group of survivors, led by the self-determined, liberal preacher Rev. Frank Scott (Gene Hackman), decides to make its own fate instead of waiting to be rescued.
