My friends would meet me outside
and we would play in the snow for what seemed like hours,
making snow forts, throwing snowballs,
building snowmen
and gathering bowls of the fluffy white snow to make snow ice cream.
Then, half-frozen in my mittens and muffler and boots,
I would make my way into our toasty warm home,
where Mom would be there to make me take off my soaking wet clothes
and fix a cup of hot cocoa to warm me up inside.
My friends and I then would look forward to something
that always happened on the day of that first snow of the year.
A silly little song with a cartoon would soon appear on our TV sets.
It was a song about Suzy Snowflake and how she had just come to town.
Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Dressed in her snow white gown,
Tap...tap...tapping on your windowpane
To tell you she's in town.
Here comes Suzy Snowflake,
Soon you will hear her say:
"Come on everyone and play with me,
I haven't long to stay.
If you want to build a snowman
I'll help you make one
One...two...three!
If you want to take a sleigh ride,
The ride's on me!"
Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Look at her tumblin' down.
Bringing joy to every girl and boy,
Susie's come to town!
Susie's come to town!
You might think the story ends there,
but it continues to Christmas Eve 1998.
We were visiting my daughter and son-in-law
and heard that silly little song on their TV set in the living room.
I rushed into the room expecting to see the cartoon
and found a music-only station playing Christmas songs,
sadly, only a Rosemary Clooney recording with no video.
Such disappointment...I had not seen that cartoon in many, many years!
Continue with me into January 1998. . .
Surfing around on the net on Yahoo!
Visiting, for no reason at all, a graphics site.
I wouldn't have known what to do with a graphic back then! *g*
A link led me to another Christmas site.
This one was special.
It took me to a "silly little song that brings back memories"!
And it also took me to my very first internet friend...AprilJuneBug.
Her memories of that song were so similar to my own that I had to write her.
I had never sent an e-mail either! *LOL*
But I did it and I met a dear, sweet friend
and shared some lovely memories of Christmases past.
I hope that Suzy will work her magic in your life
and bring back some fond memories for you too!
You never know...she's magical!
