CM'99 Camps: A Profile

Yukon
Lucky are those who participate in CM'99 in Yukon.  This is the only one of the CM'99 camps that doesn't accept patrols of girls.  Everyone at CM'99 Yukon Must have first aid training.  To get to this camp, you must fly to Whitehorse, from which you are taken to Camp Sprucewind, your base camp.  CM'99 Yukon runs from July 3-15, the longest of the camps.  This camp is so remote that phone lines had to be put in just for camp!  Some activities will be:  canoeing, horseback riding, and Hiking.  A unique thing about this camp is that you go to bed while it is still light.  There will be, apart from Canadians, New Zealanders and Americans as well.  Enjoy!

Alberta
CM'99 in Alberta is to be held July 6-16 at Camp Jublilee in Cochrane, Alberta.  Camp Jubilee is on the Bow River and offers some of the best river canoeing in the country!  It also houses many buidings and the ground is mostly flat.  Some groups will get to go to the Calgary Stampede, a world-famous event.  Another out-trip is to the gorgeus Banff National Park, where seeing elk on Main Street is an everyday thing!  CM'99 in Alberta will host many people from many countries such as:  Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Mexico, New Zealand, St. Vincent, Singapore, U.K. , and the U.S. A.  This will be a great camp!

Manitoba
CM'99 in Manitoba will be held July 9-19 at St. Malo Provincial Park.  This is about 40 minutes outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba.  It will be an interesting camp with some possible out trips being to museums, water parks, paddlewheelers, go-karts, and a Hutterite Village.  The countries that will be participating in CM'99 in Manitoba are:  Australia, Brazil, Ghana, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, U.K, and U.S.A.  There will be many water activies as this camp is so near a lake.  St. Malo Provincial Park is an ideal place for this camp to be held.  It has large flat areas, with many trees for privacy.  This will be a camp to remember!

New Brunswick
CM'99 in New Brunswick will be held July 12-22 at Woolastook Park.  This beautiful park is bordered on one side by the St. John River and on the other side by Kelly Creek.  The terrain is open with shady trees.  The air is clean and so is the water.  Some things to do at the park are: swimming, kayaking and sailing, as well as scuba diving and windsurfing.  One of the outtrips offered on this trip is the Bay of Fundy / Whale watching expidition.  If you go to this camp you should meet people from:  Australia, Barbados, Belarus, Hong Kong, Ireland, Lesotho, Packistan, Philipines, St. Vincent's, Tunisia, U.K. and the U.S.A.  Have fun!

People at all of these camps will be divided into villages.  The four villages are: Yesterday, Today, Tommorow and Forever.  Forever is for adult staff only.  The other three are for the patrols.  There will be approximately 120 patrols at each camp (save Yukon).  The people of the seperate villages will be identified by different color hat bands, as well as the staff.

Helpful Hints

* Packing your clothes in jumbo-sized Ziploc bags, and sucking the air out makes your clothes smaller and waterproof.  Pack all of your clothes for a certain day in one bag, so you won't have to search through dozens of bags.  Catagorizes them:  Day 1, Day 2, .... warm clothes, rain gear, uniforms, ect.   You can do this with your bathroom stuff as well  so you won't have to dump the entire contents of your bucket out everytime.  (source:  CM Manitoba Onelist.)

* Know what your patrol number is before you get there.  Include this when you are labelling.  It eliminates confusion.

* Unscented baby wipes really are a good thing for when you really just feel scungy.

*  Keep traders in an organized container where you can seperate the different kinds.  Those roll-up makeup bags are good, as well as the sewing and craft organizers.  Organize them according to type. (ie. Pins, crafts, badges)

* If you have any more tips e-mail them to me at
mags__1@hotmail.com I will put them on the site ASAP.
