VIOLENCE BEGINS AT HOME

One of the most dangerous things that can happen to a child is to kill or torture an animal and get away with it.
anthropologist Margaret Mead

This beautiful, wonderful dog was murdered by a violent teen when she was just 5.  He got away with it...

In Memory of Emma

In light of all the school shootings -- we need to be ever vigilant to the signs of animal abuse in our children. It is NOT something to be ignored and is a MAJOR warning sign of future trouble.

This Book Describes "The Links" Between
Animal Abuse and Family Violence:

"Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse:
Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention"
is a 498 page source book of 45 original essays, including gripping accounts by "survivors"
whose early experiences of abuse included acts of aggression directed toward their
pets. Edited by psychologist Frank Ascione and animal welfare expert Phil Arkow,
this book examines the link between animal maltreatment and human violence, expands
the scope of research in this growing area, and provides practical assessment and
documentation strategies for professionals in the three fields. The book is
available for $24.95 in paperback or $54.95 in hardback. For information,
contact Purdue University Press at 1-800-933-9637, or look in the
Fall 1998 catalog at their Web site; or visit the Latham Foundation's New Book Page

As FBI Supervisory Special Agent Alan Brantley says:
"(Animal cruelty) is not a harmless venting of emotion in a healthy individual; this is a warning sign that this individual is not mentally healthy and needs some sort of intervention."

When I began this page -- I knew lots of people didn't understand
"the Link" between animal cruelty and human violence. My pets and
I know all TOO well. We are all survivors of domestic violence.
We cannot continue to say "oh, its just a cat -- or a dog -- or rabbit"
and "boys will be boys".  Animal abuse is NOT a normal part of growing up.
Animal abuse is NOT acceptable behavior!!

Spay or Neuter your pets!!
