 Results

Graph 1 below shows what percentage of the participants chose either route through the information. The first bar in each pair shows the result for the whole sample, and the second shows it for those 59 participants who remained after others had been excluded due to the fact that their post-test scores were less than or equal to their pre-test scores.  Similarly, graph 2 shows what percentage of the sample were global, local and versatile thinkers, before and after exclusion.

The groups, selected on the basis of thinking style, were compared using a Pearson's Chi-Squared test. c2obt (2)0.84, n.s. When the different experimental groups are separated, to allow for different circumstances during different sessions, the results were as follows: Tuesday: Friday c2obt (2)=1.63, n.s. c2obt (2)0.15, n.s. c2obt (2)=0.33, n.s. c2obt (2)1.14, n.s. When participants are excluded on the basis of their pre- and post-test, the result obtained is c2obt (2)2.57, n.s.

Graph 3, below, shows the mean score on the Learning Styles Inventory, according to the route a participant took. Since scores between 44 and 52 classify a person as a versatile thinker, then the average person using either route in either case is a versatile thinker.
