The Star by Jane Taylor

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

How I wonder what you are!

Up Above the world so high,

Like a diamond in the sky.

As your bright and tiny spark,

Lights the traveler in the dark-

Though I know not what you are,

Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Early Bird by Shel Silverstein

Oh, if you're a bird, be an early bird

And catch the worm for your breakfast plate.

If you're a bird, be an early bird-

But if you're  a worm, sleep late.

Moon Boat by Charlotte Pomerantz

Moon Boat, little, brave and bright,

Tossed upon the seas at night,

One day when I'm free to roam,

I'll climb aboard and steer you home.

Big by Dorothy Aldis

Now I can catch and throw a ball

And spell

Cat. Dog.

And Pig.

I have finished being small

And started

Being Big.

Rain

The rain is raining all around

It falls on field and tree.

It rains on the umbrellas here,

And all the ships at sea.

A Teddy Bear

A teddy bear is a faithful friend,

You can pick him up at either end.

His fur is the color of breakfast toast,

And he's always there when you need him most.

Wee Willie Winkie

Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town

Upstairs, downstairs in his nightgown.

Rapping on the window, crying through the lock.

Are the children in their beds - for now it's eight o'clock.

The Wish

Each birthday wish

I ever made

Really does come

true.

Each year I wish

I'll grow some more.

And every year

I do.

Happy Thought

The world is so full of a number of things.

I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;

All the King's horses and all the King's men

Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill went up the hill

to fetch a pail of water.

Jack fell down and broke his crown,

and Jill came tumbling after.

Little Bo Peep

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep

And can't tell where to find them.

Leave them alone and they'll come home

Wagging their tails behind them.

Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle

the cow jumped over the moon

The little dog laughed to see such sport

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Rock-A-Bye Baby

Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop

When the wind blows, the cradle will rock

When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall

And down will come baby, cradle and all.

Baby Animals

I had a problem with my baby pet,

so I took him to see the vet.

Waiting there was the man from the zoo--

His baby animals had problems too!

The baby turtle was causing

all kinds of alarms,

and the little octopus had aches

in all her eight arms.

The howler monkey was

howling with pain,

and the big baby hippo had a very big gain.

The leopard had measles

beside his own spots,

and the elephant's trunk

was all tied up in knots.

The baby walrus had

a bad case of the mumps,

and the baby camel had bumps on his humps.

Mama's pocket couldn't hold her

second baby kangaroo,

who landed on the zebra, and made him

white and black and black and blue.

The little newborn bear cub had a

splinter in his paw,

And the poor little doggie couldn't close his jaw.

If a fish feels funny, or a bunny's ears are runny,

If baby weasels have the measles or the fox has chicken pox,

If the piglet's tail is frail, or the snail starts to wail,

If the snake has an ache or the chimp has a limp,

If the lizard hurt his gizzard, or the colt had a jolt,

If the chick is feeling sick, or the guppy bit a puppy,

If the ostrich's eyes are blurry, you don't have to worry--

Take the pets to the vets and they'll get well in a hurry!

A Trip to the City

One sunny day we got in our car

and Daddy said it wouldn't be far.

We brought along our puppy and kitty

to come with us to see the big city.

We laughed to hear our puppy bark

at the big dogs playing in the park.

But our kitty didn't say a word,

she was too busy making friends with a bird.

We looked at the pictures in the museum

and kitty and puppy were happy to see 'em.

When our trip to the museum ends

we buy postcards to mail to our friends.

We went to the tallest building in town.

It was fun to go up, it was fun to look down.

The city is filled with such wonderful sights

and my little kitty is not scared of heights.

We went to watch a ball team play

and puppy caught a ball that came our way.

Then we drove back home by a big full moon.

We love the city, and we're coming back soon!

To My Mother

By Edgar Allen Poe

Because I feel that in the heavens above

The angels, whispering one to another,

Can find among their burning terms of love,

None so devotional as that of "Mother,"

Therefore by that dear name I have long called you,

You who are more than mother unto me,

And filling my heart of hearts, where death installed you,

In setting my Virginia's spirit free,

My mother--my own mother, who died early,

Was but the mother of myself; but you

Are the mother to the one I loved so dearly,

And thus are dearer than the mother I knew

But that infinity with which my wife

Was dearer to my soul that its soul-life.

Please remember don't forget
Never leave  the bathroom wet
Nor leave the soap still in the water
That's a thing we never o'rta
Nor leave the towels about the floor
Nor keep the bath an hour or more
When other folks are wanting one
Please don't forget
This isn't done!
