THURSDAY - This was the day we got sent to Jail - Alcatraz to be precise. The tour is very very good - the millions of Japanese school children were certainly enjoying it. You walk round with a cassette recording made by former wardens and inmates. With added sound effects it provided a very authentic insight into this historic but creepy monument! We were also very lucky with the weather - bright sunshine - and our first real view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We had our lunch at a Micro Brewery near to The Cannery at Fisherman's Wharf. After feasting on huge Steak Sandwiches and large glasses of beer - we headed off for our respective beauty treatments and an afternoon of pampering - Leonie to Aveda and Nicki to Sephora. After an afternoon with oceanic music, herbal aromas and hot relaxing blanket, Leonie now looks like Sarah Jessica Parker - very glam! Nicki now has a personal e-mail makeup consultant after being done up to the nines in Stila make-up (Dr Green's wife's stuff) by the lovely Nigel. Our gastranomic trip around the world took us to Mexico for dinner. We found this fab and popular restaurant in the Marina district (the area remined Nicki of Miami Beach) which served Aztec food no less! Nicki was especially impressed by the Strawberry Margarita's. Starters were home made tortilla chips (fat free of course) and salsa dips. Leonie had Mole - over 40 ingredients including chocolate - which made it look like bovril before the water is added. It was very very rich! She did her best to eat it but had to give up before the bowl was anywhere near empty. Much to Nicki's disgust, we had Brits sat next to us. Everywhere you go in this city you hear British voices - it must be an invasion! The woman was upset that she couldn't find Rioja on the wine list - "Try some local plonk Mrs!" Another delightful evening. |
