A Thief in the Night, A Distant Thunder, Image of the Beast, The Prodigal Planet....If you were saved in the 70s or early 80s chances are you have seen these movies. Maybe you were even saved BECAUSE of these movies. If you saw these as a child you may have had nightmares and fears that you had been left behind when you found yourself home alone.
I first heard about these movies through my youth pastor in the early 1990s. I rented them from a local Christian bookstore and I was hooked !!!! One day I was lucky enough to find a used copy of A Distant Thunder for sale at a video store for $5.00.
With a copy in my permanent possession, I think I made all of my friends watch it at one time or another. Their reaction was pretty much the same, "Michelle, this is pretty stupid"
The exception was my friend Ron who actually asked if we could watch the movie whenever he would come over. Together with our friend Donna Lynn, we formed the Beast Movie Club. We watched the movies enough to know the dialogue so we could talk back to the actors (Run Patty...the Unite guy is coming to the door) Soon we had our own Christian version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The movies have a definate 70s flare to them...handlebar mustaches, long straight hair parted down the middle, blue sunglasses, headbands, and an abuse of the word, "groovy". As Donna Lynn once said, "Its like an episode of the Brady Bunch gone bad". The acting is really bad. This is part of the charm and why we love them so much.
During the summer of 1998 we began to wonder if there was anyone else like us who shared a passion for these movies. We went to the internet and could not find a single site dedicated to our beloved Beast Movies....It then became clear that we needed to create our own site.
