All opinions expressed here are strictly my own

The Change Germaine Greer, Knopf.
Technical, attitudes of society around the world. Lengthy - only for the serious mid-life reader.

Is it Hot in Here or Is It Me? A Personal look at the Facts, Fallacies, and Feelings of Menopause Gayle Sand, Harper Collins.
Whiny. Very personal story. Not medical or informational. She did everything non- traditional to avoid HRT.

Making Sense of Menopause Faye Kitchener Cone, Simon and Schuster.
Written in a conversational tone. Easy to understand. Overview of menopause intermingled with personal experiences.

Menopause Without Medicine Linda Ojeda, PhD., Hunter House.
How to survive menopause without HRT. Also a discussion on HRT. She thinks it is possible to get through hot flashes without estrogen. Obviously never had severe symptoms.

The Pause Lonnie Barbach, PhD., Penguin Books.
My favorite. Basic discussion. Chapter on alternatives (homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs). Some chat, some anecdotes, some facts. Great basic information.
Lonnie Barbach attends all major menopause conferences and is a major advocate for women’s health care.

Perimenopause - Preparing for the Change Nancy Lee Teaff, M.D. and Kim Wright Wiley, Prima Publishing.
Preparing for menopause. HRT. Health issues.
Too cutsey at times. Emphasis on youthfulness, looks.
Written to the baby boom generation.

The Silent Passage Gail Sheehy, Random House.
The classic intro book on menopause. Chatty. Social and psychological aspects of menopause. HRT information. Getting dated with so much else out now - but still the early classic.

What Women Should Know About Menopause Judith Sachs, Dell.
Good basic medical information. Thin. Easy to read.

Women of the 14th Moon - Writings on Menopause edited by Dena Taylor and Amber Coverdale Sumrali, The Crossing Press.
Writings on menopause by women writers who have been there. You are not alone. Experiences, feelings, life changes. Collection of prose and poetry. Different voices and viewpoints.
NOT medical information - mid-life change information.
