The
Larensti and Vars
Larensti's true origins are lost in the sands of time. What
we do know is that some time ago a tribe of elves left the
Ancient homeland with the intention of starting a colony on a
disserted isle. The island's name was Laren. The
colony thrived in isolation. Then the orcs arrived. It
is also unclear when and how they arrived, but they did.
They fought each other in a bitter blood feud that stretched the
millennium. Over the course of this time neither group had
contact with the outside world. And the Larensti started to
change, in many different ways. As many of the warriors
began living and fighting in short tunnels, they generally
started getting shorter and shorter. And so the once high,
then wood elves finally wound up as lost elves.
This feud could have gone on forever, except that one day, the
wise old sage came to the conclusion that the isle Larensti was
in fact an active volcano! As the very new and very young
chief Vars considered his options, a large bulge started to form
on the side of the mountain. Releasing that time was
running out, Vars instructed his tribesmen to build boats so that
they could Go Back to the ancient elven homeland. Buy their
estimates they finished the boats one day before it would blow.
One day after the boats started out on their long journey they
encountered a large wave from the direction of the island, and a
dark cloud filled the sky. All evidence that their island
was no more. After sailing and sailing, the Go Backs were
hopelessly lost. Just when a great storm came upon the
ships and seemed to be determined to destroy them, the elves hit
a rocky shore. One ship was shattered on the rocks. And
as Vars climbed out of the ocean, there stood a human (the
first human Vars had ever seen).
Corinth was all too happy to provide Vars with directions to the
Elven homeland for a price. Vars and some of his warriors
were to serve Corinth and the rest of the tribe would settle in
the protection of the Homeland. Vars agreed, as he saw no
other choice in this strange land. Corinth then led the
tribe across a range of hills and into the homeland. Vars
was less than ten miles away.
The tribe settled in a valley and was placed under the protection of the Elven King; as Vars and his loyal scouts followed Corinth on his many quests.
