Creating a Home Page

Getting Started:

There are two very simple home page editors for you to use in AOL:

1-2-3 Publish and Easy Designer

All you have to do is decide which is right for you.

1-2-3 Publish is probably the simplest home page editor on the internet. There are more than 50 templates for creating pages with personal information, hobbies, pets, just about everything you can think of to share. You can select from a variety of different backgrounds, add pictures, and chat with your friends through AIM. You will find the instructions simple and easy to follow, and a little creativity can produce pleasing results. If you can type, you can publish a page! Just go to Keyword: 1-2-3 Publish

Easy Designer

Easy Designer is a bit more sophisticated, allowing for the addition of sound, html code, background sets, counters, and guestbooks. Drag-and-drop editing gives you much more creative control than in 1-2-3 Publish, but templates are available if you think you are artistically challenged. Even the templates can be changed, as you learn how to command your space, however. When you publish your page in Hometown AOL, you will get lots of storage space (12MB) for photos, graphics, and music files. That’s a LOT of pages you can build. Keyword: Easy Designer

FTP Space

FTP Space is where you store your photos, graphics, and music files. You get a small amount of storage space when you begin, but as soon as you add your pages to “Hometown AOL” your space increases to 12 MB. That’s a nice big walk-in closet for goodies. You can upload files directly to your FTP space by going to Keyword: My FTP Space, or you can add files to your FTP space automatically as you need them on your page.
