Whitney's Angel Afghans

Who we are and what we do:

Whitney's Angel Afghans is a branch of Afghans for Angels. It is an organization made up of volunteers who make and distribute baby blankets to local hospitals for parents who have experienced the loss of a child through stillbirth, miscarriage, or infant death.

Purpose:

The death of a child, no matter what age, is devastating to parents. Through consulting with support groups, and through my own experiences, it was learned that caring and supportive services are of great importance during this time.

The "Angel Afghans" are to be placed lovingly around these infant angels when they are held by their families during their brief time spent with them. The parents are given these blankets to remember their precious angels. Having these to hold is a comforting way to remember.

How you can help:

Volunteers are needed to help make these "Angel Afghans". If you can knit, crochet, quilt, or decorate purchased blankets, your help would be GREATLY appreciated. You can also help by donating yarn in baby colors or other materials to make these blankets.

If you would like to start a group like this one in your area, visit the Afghans for Angels website. They will help you with any questions you have about starting a group on your own. It is they're wish, and mine, that someday EVERY hospital will be able to provide parents and families in need with these blankets and and the information needed to help them through this difficult time.

We also need your help to spread the word about this group and the other chapters of Afghans for Angels. The more volunteers we have, the more families we can reach out to. Please help us to help others.

Each afghan has two cards attached. One card is for the family and the other is for the medical staff. We want to be able to acknoledge that these children did exist and that they will always be loved and missed.
