Creating a page...
the Fun begins!

I hope everyone has been thinking about what kind of page you want to have...   There are many options, from a family album, to a page about mountain climbing, to a page designed to make you money!

What I'm building is a page about how to build a page.   But then, you knew that...  Rememember to launch my page in a new window, so you can be viewing me, plus working on your own page.   (Right click on my link, and select "Open in new window.)

Add-ons-  Backgrounds,  Music, Animations, give your page personality!   Too much personality can be a problem...

Don't we all know someone that is so overbearing we love to laugh at them at first, but soon grow tired of them, or can only handle them for a little while?  You page is the same way.   Too much activity gets old fast.   The internet is about information, so a nice design should compliment and point to the information you are offering, regardless if it is a personal or business page.

If you have a 'noisey' page, it should be your welcome page, and still get right to the point.

Now- After you've started PageBuilder, open up your index page by clicking on the 'open' button in the top toolbar.   Select your index page (your HOME Page) that we began with.    Lets add a background, and some music, and an animation.

Notice the Add-on button on your toolbar.   Click on that button, and select backgrounds.    When the screen opens, and loads you have a couple of choices.    If you have uploaded some backgrounds, you will find them in the the drop-down menu, that says 'collections',  under imported pictures.   Or from the pre-installed files, you can pre-view and select a background.   You also can ignore the files, and instead click on the "set background color" button.   This will allow you to set a color of your choice as a background, and also give you the fastest loading page...

We installed our star flickering background on the Home Page, (index) and have been using colors on the lesson pages.   This page has NO background!  When you've selected a background, click okay, and it will appear on your page.

You also can set the background color on a text box.   Do you remember adding a text box when you first Named you site, and saved it?    To type text on your page, click on the Text button, and drag it and shape it by holding your cursor on the dots and clicking and dragging the edges to where you want them.   You can drag the whole box in the same way.  While the box is active, a different tool menu appears above.  Click on the little bucket with paint falling out of it. A menu will appear letting you choose a color for the background of the text box that is open.   You'll have to make sure the text will show up good, too.    You can choose a color for the letters by hightlighting (click-hold and drag across) the text, and clicking on the little 'T' that has paint falling off it.   The box below will have a Yellow background, and Bold Blue letters.    You select bold, by clicking on the 'B' before you type, or highlighting text with your cursor and clicking on it.

Remember you can select a text letter 'font' to use from the font drop-down menu in the left hand corner, and a size right next to it.   You text color or font style might not show up unless you preview it!   Click outside the box to return to your main tool bar and hit the preview button, and see if your background contrasts well with your fonts, if you don't see it the way you designed it, try again.   Remember to highlight the text that you want to change, before selecting a color.

To add background music, do much the same thing.    From the Add-on button select background music.   The screen will appear.  Where it says Choose, click and another screen will appear, and any background music files you have uploaded from previous lessons, will appear for you.    Select one, and click OKAY.   It will play automatically, when you preview your page.

I suggest DON'T click the loop to play constantly.   Music can be annoying!   I'd not use it anywhere except on the home page, either.  Surfers are fickle, and slow loads make them (us) leave...

Remember music slows down your page load, as does counters, animations,  banners, and especially affiliate banners that retrieve the image from some other site.   (I'll explain that item in a future lesson about adding HTML to your site.)

When the text boxes you are adding start not wanting to open downwards, like for me, right now, Yahoo is telling you that your page is long enough!   Create a new one and link!   So click on this link to go on to the next lesson, Adding Animations, and we'll put some images on our page!
