CHILDREN OF ADOPTION

This page is dedicated to the mother

I have yet to meet,

and the family whose heritage I share.

I have designed this page as I might

have if I had a computer

when I was a young child.

If my mother should see this ~

I offer her my poetry, my art, my music...

all of those things I was not able to share

with her in childhood:

the wilted bouquet of dandelions,

the fingerpainted handprints,

the popsicle stick frame

around a paper heart that says

"HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!"

and the lullabyes that I

couldn't hear her sing

because she was too far away.

I see her in the mother bird

nesting on my window sill,

the mother dog who has

a tear in her eye when the puppies

are whisked away,

and in the moon and stars

that we can see together.

I hope that someday

we will really meet,

and I can share

my hugs, my tears,

my hopes and dreams

past, present, and future.
