USING THE INTERNET IN THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

Life and Times of Shakespeare

The task is to interview someone who lived in Shakespeare's times: between 1550 and 1620.
NOTE
This period of time is also known as Elizabethan as Elizabeth 1 was on the throne.

This work is to be done in pairs.
Students will need to research the topic using the Internet and one other source.
The presentation will be oral.
One member will be the interviewer and the other the interviewee.

METHOD

  • Decide on a person for the interview.
    For example
    * a stage hand at the Globe theatre
    *an actor in a Shakespearina play
    *Anne Hathaway(Shakepeare's wife)
    *A courtier at the palace of Elizabeth 1
    *a noted figure in history such as Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh or any other.

  • Students brainstorm ideas for headings for the questions

  • Search the Internet.

  • Access the Internet and look for information.

  • Use the Library/Resource Centre to collect other information from different resources such as book, magazines, journals, CD's.

  • Students take notes from the information they acquire.

  • Students decide on the questions and responses that they will make.

  • Practice the interview and then present it to the class.



    As an extension activity students could also
    prepare and design a FAQ sheet about Shakespeare.
