Letter to the Editor
I'm an eighteen year old female, and high school dropout. A year before I dropped out of school I was raped by a friend, who was also a student at my school. When the school was notified about this, they protected him, instead of me. They even put him in classes with me, so I was forced to drop them. I was told that the only way that he could be forced out of school was if he was charged, and found guilty in court. Well now, a year and a half after the original assault occured, I still have not gone to court. My court date is in the end of June. This guy not only raped me, but also two other girls who are charging him too! And yet, this year he will be graduating, while the other victims and myself, are left with nothing. It is disgusting to think that the school feels that a rapist is better to protect than his victims. While mothers are sending their precious thirteen and fourteen year old daughters off to high school for the first time, rapists are lurking the halls in search of their next victims. I hope that before school doors open in September, the school boards will look over their policies and start protecting the people that need to be protected.
