Yesterday, I went to Yunnan Bookstore with a few classmates hoping to purchase all of our
recommended textbooks there, as they had the lowest retail prices for medical and nursing textbooks,
but to our horror, the bookstore was brimming with other students from the nursing school! Worse,
most of the textbooks were already sold out!! :~(
This morning, there was a mad rush to the campus bookstore as we all tried to purchase the textbooks,
albeit at a much higher price. Too bad - they were out of stock too! :( *grumble*
Just as well... my wallet wouldn't complain about feeling 'fat' for the next few days / weeks anyway.
The recommended textbooks all came up to more than S$300.00 (abt US$180.00)!! Although some of the
books would be useful throughout the 3-year course and even beyond, each semester would require some other
textbooks to be bought.
This was a time when many of us sponsored students wished the hospitals had given us our allowance at the beginning of
every month instead of at the end of every month. Cost of the textbooks and notes would surely come up to quite a
whopping amount. One thing I'd like to advise people who are considering nursing school here - save up a substantial amount
prior to the course.
