Atta girl! I woke up early this morning and had my Hep B vaccination done in a jiffy. There was this old
nurse in the room for vaccinations that looked like a bulldog, scowling at her junior nurse colleague and I was
praying she wouldn't be the one to administer my injection but as luck would have it, she was the one. :/
I went in smiling as sweetly as I could and sweet-talked her and surprisingly, she may be stern and all but
she's really nice. :) The injection didn't hurt a bit and as usual, the heroic me never took my eyes off the
entire procedure. Yup, I'm one of those who'll see the entire process and won't blink an eye even when the needle
pierces my skin. Good, eh? hehehe! I'm hoping this innate courage will see me through the yuckier things I'll have
to go through in nursing school.
The nurses chit-chatted with me and they found me sorta an 'oddity' because they couldn't understand why I would
give up a good career and good pay in the private corporate world to enter nursing. It's surprising how, if you
treat a supposedly grouchy person nicely, they end up being nice back. The nurses who all seemed grouchy and irritable
melted when you gave them a smile and an empathetic demeanour. :) Lesson One in the practical world of nursing - treat
everyone like a special individual and you'll break down walls. :) Can't wait for clinical attachment in October to
interact with patients and their families. My corporate background might come in useful afterall - all that training and
experience in Interpersonal Communication and such. No experience is ever wasted, unless you choose to ignore it and be
obstinate. My stubborness and folly has gotten me in nasty situations and never shall I allow myself to be bull-headed
again.
I had time on my hands and the weather was great so I went to Yunan Bookstore again to try my luck. I was there at about 9am
and had to wait half an hour when they opened. There were already some nursing students there, as eager as I was to try our luck
at getting some of the textbooks, which had arrived.
I was all contentment as I left the bookshop lugging a heavy shopping bag of two thick, fat textbooks. :) Two down... a couple
more to go.
I made sure I went to church this evening with my close friend. There's so much I want to thank God for and I certainly need His
blessings in the days to come. Besides, I've been given a new lease of life and I want so much to get it right this time round so
I really want Him to be Lord of my life and live my life for Him. Being a good nurse will take a lot of strength, diligence and
dedication and I know I can draw upon Abba Father for everlasting strength, peace and renewal. :)
