Hello World! Cheryl here to tell my story..... As Dr. Laura would say "I am proud I am my kid's mother". We have three boys, Zachary who is age 1 1/2, Jake turned 4 in February, and Robby turned 11 in June. My husband Ravi and I live in Northern California, between San Francisco and San Jose. We are basically home bodies, and our favorite past time (besides eating in all of the great restaurants around here ) is simply playing with our kids. Zachary is a little angel who loves Barney and Teletubbies. He is a building block king and loves to zoom-zoom his cars around the house. Jake is a fireball who plans on taking over the world. He goes to preschool 3 days per week and loves to put the calendar number up. His teacher says he is such a good boy. Robby loves school and does very well. He plays video games and like most cancer kids, has every set known to man. He is also a Star Wars fanatic and has a great collection started. My husband collects videos and just got a DVD player, making all of his other movies obsolete…UGH! I love reading medical mysteries, detective stories and craft magazines. I have a scroll saw and do some decorative painting. With the ordeal of Robby's cancer, we have really learned to appreciate the finer things in life... family hugs... the smell of a baby after a bath... making popcorn and watching a movie together... the joy of no more training wheels... Dr. Seuss... a good cup of coffee... the words "I love You". My biggest joy in the world is sitting down at dinner surrounded by my family, talking about our day. There is a lot of hugging and kissing in our household. Robby was dx with pre-B ALL at the age of 5 1/2. We found out when our pediatrician phoned to say: "I'm sure you know by now that your son has leukemia." Our world turned upside down, as you can all relate. After 2 years and 2 weeks of treatment, he relapsed in his CNS…starting the whole thing over again. Six months later, he relapsed again in his CNS. After much research and conversations with doctors around the world, we agreed that a bone marrow transplant was the best chance for cure. No donor was found so an autologous transplant was performed in Jan of 96. After the long recovery period post-BMT, Robby had one major hurdle left---he walked way up on his toes--thank you vincristine! He had double heel cord lengthening last summer and this summer finally has--NO LINES, NO CASTS, NO MASKS! He gets to be a kid again. Zachary and hubby Ravi Jake Robby
