Four and a half... and so smart. She's learning Spanish right now, thanks to Dora the Explorer. She still loves Blue's Clues, Clifford, Bob the Builder, DragonTales and the rest, but Dora is her favorite. She got a bike for her fourth birthday and loves riding it (with training wheels). Her favorite activity of all is ballet. She has been taking lessons since last fall and has a recital coming up soon!
She's almost four!(I don't have any new pictures right now... we have a backlog of film to be developed.) Our Army Adventure has taken us to Columbia, South Carolina now. Our new home is pretty, and Kayla has a big backyard. She spends her time playing, visiting our neighbors, tormenting our three kittens, watching cartoons, helping Mommy with her chores, and creating amazing art. She's three-and-a-half...and she seems to like her new home in Georgia. She gets to play outside a lot more, has great new friends, and loves playing with Daddy. Her favorite characters these days are Little Bear, Franklin, Blue (from Blue's Clues), and Bear (in the Big Blue House). She absolutely loves "helping" the fix-it guys who come to work on the sink. She's getting super excited about the two kittens we're getting in a few weeks. She's 3 years old!! We went to the Zoo again this year, and Kayla loved the fish and ducks best, as usual. I took a LOT of pictures, and will be getting those up soon. She blew out the candles on her cake- each one took a separate breath. Her favorite characters these days are Spot, Madeline, Thomas the Tank Engine, and all the DragonTales bunch. She absolutely loves "scoop-n-dumps" and other construction equipment. Oh, she also got a goldfish for her birthday- and just loves it.
Two years, nine months... she's almost THREE! She's three feet, one inch tall now- a little string bean. She loves Playdough, building with blocks, cars and dumptrucks, and swimming in her pool. She'd be outside all day if I let her. Her favorite videos right now are "Hercules", "Toy Story" (1 and 2), "Spot", and "Madeline." She loves pretending to be Spot... Spot is a dog. Earlier this summer she spent a lot of time eating radishes, picked all on her own, from Pa's garden (her grandpa). She just loved them!
Two years, three months Yup, she's 2 1/4. She is talking more and more, but has "forgotten" how to say some words. For example, "Tummy" is now pronounced "Teeno." She got her first haircut- just some bangs- and has her first 2-year-molar, finally. And she's growing like a weed. As of the last measuring a couple of weeks ago, she is 35 1/4 inches tall, and 27 pounds. Sometimes I would swear she's really 40 pounds! Buzz Lightyear is her favorite toy lately, along with her little tea set, and her favorite movies this last month or so have been "Madeline," "Lion King," and "Fantasia 2000." She is very excited over the new garden in the backyard- she helps dig and says "yuck" over and over. :-)
She's Two Years old! Wow, I can't believe it. She spends her days building... she LOVES blocks. She even uses non-blocks to build with. Everything is fair-game. Her favorite movies this last month have been Stuart Little, Little Mermaid, Bug's Life, and You've Got Mail. (She's an odd child.) When she's not building, she's imitating her mother and grandmother, climbing things, and asking for strange foods. She had a phenomenal Christmas... she even got a Thomas the Tank Engine train set. She loves trains! She's pretty much able to say anything... so she's finally talking... but it's only when she WANTS to.
22 month update: Kayla can read! She recognizes the words Elmo, Ernie, Stuart, Mommy, and Please when she sees them. She also recognizes several letters when she sees them. She can count to 10, sometimes. Sometimes she gets them mixed around. She loves singing- "C is for Cookie" and "Bah, Bah, Black Sheep" are her favorites. But the thing she loves to do the most is 'swim' in her new pool! She loves our new house and yard. Playing with chalk on the porch is also high on her list. Her favorite movies are Stuart Little and Lady and the Tramp, both of which she acts out from start to finish!
18 month update: Kayla is finally starting to eat a lot of foods- rice, carrots, and bananas are her favorites this week. Her favorite activity (besides nursing) is digging in the pots on the balcony. She loves going to the zoo to see the ducks, too.
17 month update: Kayla is a die-hard Elmo fan! It's "all Elmo, all the time" around here. She loves dancing with him, and has learned a lot of things. She loves having her fingers and toes counted, and really loves playing with money- a future accountant? Her other favorite job is helping us unload the dishwasher. Kayla is currently researching the best shape for pasta- any shape is good, but her vote is for super-slurpable s'ghetti!
Thirteen-and-a-half Month Update:She's no longer a baby. She somersaults and stands on her head. She LOVES books. Her perfect world would be outdoors all the time, with big piles of books to read, and lots of birds and ducks to look at.
She's One Year Old! And she's walking like a pro. She's even dancing, when the mood strikes her- the Drunk Monkey Dance, as we call it. It involves shaking her head while walking, and picking up one leg, with one arm behind her back. It's quite a trick, and usually ends with her falling down.
Eleven Month Update: She's on the move! She has crawling down pat and is walking, too. She still has to be tricked to take steps on her own, though. She *loves* eating ice, O's, rice chex, carrots, green beans, and anything else she can get her little hands on. She finds food both yummy and fascinating as an artistic medium. :-)
Nine-and-a-half Month Update:I apologize for the delay! Kayla started crawling on August 1st, and then took her first steps on August 2nd! Since then she has been cruising and walking with help. She has no patience with crawling- she prefers grabbing Mommy's hands and dragging her all over the new apartment. If anyone didn't get our new address and phone number- just email me!
Eight Month Update:Eight months and eight teeth! And a whole lotta new pictures! She loves "walking" around (with lots of help holding her up) and insists on being outside as much as possible. She refuses to crawl... doesn't want to mark up her pretty little knees.
Six-and-a-half Month Update: SHE SAID "MAMA!!" Kayla has four teeth, now. Two in the middle on the bottom, and two on the sides on the top. She's making some serious attempts at crawling, but still gets where she wants to go by rolling.
Six Month Update: Kayla has a tooth! It's just barely poking through, but it's there. Looks like the upper left incisor- NOT one of the middle ones. How strange. The bottom two are ready to come through any minute, too. She has tasted banana and saltine... neither went over very well. For now she's happy to stick with Mama.
Five Month Update: Kayla loves to eat everything now! Flowers, remote controls, clothes, toys, ties... they're all good! She can sit up by herself for a few seconds at a time. She finally got to meet her friend Skye Rowzee on St. Patrick's Day. Go to my links page to see them together. Her favorite game is to see how many diapers, blankets, and outfits she can soak during "diaper-free time."
Four Month Update: Kayla can roll over! She loves her feet, too, they make great snacks. She laughs at Mommy's silly faces and blows "raspberries". We even have picture proof of her standing all on her own (leaned against a table.) She's a big girl now!
Almost-Three-Month Update: Kayla giggles and "talks" so well now. She likes helping Grandma play solitaire on the computer, and she's very proud of her new website!
Two Month Update: Eleven pounds!! Kayla loves to "talk" to Mom and Grandma. She has a twinkle in her eye that lets us know she'll have a lot to say once she learns how. She loves listening to her Daddy sing and imitates the faces he makes. She can roll over from her tummy to her back, if she tries really, really hard. She recently attended her first social function- she went as Baby New Year.
Six Week Update: Kayla now weighs about 10 pounds, and is 24 inches long!! She has learned how to coo, but mostly grunts and groans. She's earning the nickname "Miss Piggy." I'm still waiting for her to sleep through the night!
Two Week Update: She's already up to 9 pounds, and can roll over onto her tummy when put on her side. I'm going to have to really watch this little girl!
