Women For Sobriety -- Jean Kirkpatrick's alternative to the 12 steps. The emphasis is on competence and enhanced self-esteem for women with drinking problems. Kirkpatrick was one of the first women to say outright that women have different recovery problems and needs than men--that one size does not necessarily fit all.
Moderation Management "For people who want to reduce their drinking." This organization/treatment modality was developed by a woman, Audrey Kishline. Contrary to popular opinion, abstinence is not the only option.
Stanton Peele Addiction Website -- this guy is great! If you want the straight scoop on addiction, the "disease" concept, and the treatment industry, you can't miss this site. Peele has published many books and articles, and the ones I've read are all "right on"! Go, Stanton!
Rational Recovery --Jack and Lois Trimpey. Some good material here. The focus is definitely on abstinence. Trimpey has taken a close look at AA and his analysis is insightful and thought-provoking.
Secular Organizations for Sobriety -- SOS is a good alternative for those of you who find all that "God stuff" in AA a little hard to swallow. (Did you know that recent court cases have categorized AA as a religion?)
