My parents, Herman and Bessie Aschmann, were married in 1941. They spent most of that time in Mexico where they were
missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators, also known as Summer Institute of Linguistics.
My father is going strong still and is an inspiration to us
young folk. He translated the New Testament into several Totonac dialects and still spends several hours each day on the computer working on the Totonac dictionary.
My mother died of altzheimers in the spring of 2000. She was loving, stubborn, intelligent woman and always had an opinion on any issue. In her 50s she went back to school and got her bachelor and master degrees in anthropology, with honors. She saved the letters I wrote while I was up in the states in school in the 50s and loved us all.
